Reposting here...

Hello!
I have an Orange phone which I want to use on o2. When I put the sim in, it says "network lock" and is asking for a number. Any ideas?

Ring up Orange and ask for the code to unlock it - they will charge you.
Or go to an indoor market - you usually see signs saying phone unlocking on the stalls that sell phone accessories / gadgets etc.

Be aware, it may also depend on a further lock (eg for Apple iPhone) being cancelled too.

Thanks NetworkGuy- It's a fairly old and basic Samsung, so I'm hoping that won't apply...

Should be no problem. However, you might also consider whether a tenner or more is worth paying (either to network or to a guy at the market) to unlock the phone, if you could find a similar but unlocked Samsung on Ebay.

I would consider a check of Ebay just in case you can find one, as it means you have a source for spare parts, battery, charger, and if unlocked, should be able to use your O2 SIM in it, after you have copied the contacts from your Orange SIM into the phone. I guess it depends how 'attached' you are to the current phone.

Also, if the phone was on an orange contract, they might charge a lower (or no) fee. PAYG would mean they would usually charge a fee.

I have read that Carphone Warehouse provides some unlocked phones when sold for use on some networks (in case someone else comes searching for unlocking). Also Asda Living sells unlocked phones. CPW does also sell unlocked phones for PAYG use but they can be double the cost of ones locked to a particular network.
