Yes, MIB, but that doesn't stop someone recording audio to make an MP3 for their own personal use.
Software to record audio is relatively cheap and using a timer schedule I record blocks of 4 hours at a time so have years' of radio broadcasts on hard drive. Mostly of R4 but it depends what station I switch my DAB set to (so that I am not using up my ISP download allowance).
Once I have a satellite dish up I intend to have 4 PCs and 4 FreeSat boxes to record some stations (not all BBC) 24x7. By taking 4 cables from the dish into a multiplexing device, I will be able to have 16 outputs, enough for FreeSat HD recorders upstairs and down, and have plans for a cupboard to hold shelves with a stack of PCs and FreeSat SD boxes, some for audio, some for video.
I'll be adding several network storage boxes so the audio will be available on other PCs around the house and in my garage (no car!)
All recordings will be for time-shift purposes just as some would have used a VHS video recorder, or more recently, set-top hard-drive recorders.
Difference will be that instead of 320 GB (or 1 TB) that you might have in a Sky+ or similar box, by using network storage boxes, I could set aside 8 (which is a lot of space for audio recordings, compared with video+audio that the set-top boxes store).
