Blardy mouse "click lock" is driving me mental! Help somebody please!

I'm on Windows XP. Mouse click lock turns on with one click of the mouse - so easy to do accidentally - and then I only need to hover over a link to "click" on it. I am accidentally opening all kinds of stuff - adverts and the like - swapping tabs, opening and closing programmes. It is driving me mad.

I have been to "Mouse" under Control Panel and unchecked the box to turn it on, but it seems that one click of the mouse is still all it needs to turn it back on again. I only need to slightly miss something I'm clicking on, and on comes the bloody click lock again.

How do I disable it altogether? Help please, before I accidentally order something or click on a porn link by mistake.

OK, does nobody know or is it just too boring?

I think you are already doing this but have posted it anyway just in case it helps.

Thanks. Yes I've done all that. I swear it is the worst feature that Microsoft have ever created. I did, however, increase the hover time required last night so we'll see if that helps. Grrrr.

Have to admit not looking - I tend to go to threads where there's only a single post. Once it has hit 2 or 3 there may have been a solution already posted.

Being nosy, is this on a laptop or desktop?

Just that in 15+ years using Windows and 10+ helping clients, it has not come up as a problem before, in my experience.

Oops - that'll be me being impatient then. Blush

Tis a laptop. Strangely though, for the first time in a year it seems not to be doing it right now... But it could very easily come back again, so if there's a solution it would be good to know. Is the checkbox under Mouse options supposed to disable it for good?

The way I read it, just clicking the mouse is enough to re-enable it. However, if you tick the box and then click the button to the right, you can change the tme setting, which might mean you can make it less sensitive (remember to untick the box again as well).

Have not experienced this function myself, so not sure how one can quickly tell it is on. However, I don't like the 'touch pad' or 'joystick' they offer on laptops so always use an optical mouse via USB (can be had for under 3 quid on Ebay from HK!) and am far happier with that (though I am perhaps unusual in using laptops mostly in static locations because of external hard drives, power leads and so on, plus a second LCD display to give me a lot more 'desktop').

That's what I thought NetworkGuy. I have changed the time setting and I haven't had the problem today so far. It was set to medium but honestly I only needed to move over something for it to "click". Thanks for replying. Smile
