Does anyone have any idea what the devil the picture on my profile is? It's some sort of bioloical specimen found on a jumper, but after extensive googling, I have given up. Any ideas??

Can't see your profile.

Is it an animal, or the bodily fluid of one of your DCs?

goodtimesarecoming · 28/01/2011 14:40

I've made my profile public now. Its something we've got to identify for uni, but who knows what1

No idea what it is. Could be anything, why do you need to know?

mrsnich84 · 28/01/2011 14:43

my guess would be pollen of some kind. but I cant make the picture big enough to see properly. just a guess though. whats the magnification?

bumpybecky · 28/01/2011 14:45

pollen, moss spores, fungal spores?

hard to tell as there's not much detail and no idea of magnification

thumbdabwitch · 28/01/2011 14:46

looks like teeny tiny eggs - one of them even has what looks like an even teenier duck sitting atop of it.Grin

Could be fungal spores. They are round sometimes. Why?

thumbdabwitch · 28/01/2011 14:47

some pics of various types of fungal spores

goodtimesarecoming · 28/01/2011 14:47

We were just send the slide, according to the scale on the side, those larger things are about .05mm across if that helps

err, what module are you doing at the moment? some kind of hint as to which field of biology would be nice...

goodtimesarecoming · 28/01/2011 14:51

forensic biology, so it could be anything

diatoms? other very tiny pond life?!

although if they were found on a jumper I'm betting it's a plant / fungi thing

BilboBloggins · 28/01/2011 14:53

Looks a bit like yeast budding

IngridBergmann · 28/01/2011 14:55

Cbeebies?

IngridBergmann · 28/01/2011 14:56

See you shouldn't have asked a bunch of bored mothers of preschoolers should you Grin

thumbdabwitch · 28/01/2011 14:56

yeast budding = another good possibility

Not diatoms, I don't think - doesn't look like it on Google images anyway

yeast = fungus anyway so budding fungal spores = good coverage of both options.

lol at cbeebies

Looks like ladybird eggs to me, but it's the wrong time of year for them.

Oh, 1/20 of a mm. Probably not then.
