Word - Why doesn't my text stay inside the borders?

Please can someone help me with this - no matter where I set the borders in Word the text spills over the dotted lines into the margins.
What do I need to adjust???
TIA

Adjust the margins by moving the little arrows at the top of the page, not sure what you mean by dotted lines tho, my word never has that? What page view are you working in? Set it to print view

Have you checked it in print preview to see how it would actually print?

Are you using a text box by accident?

Check your alignment- is it set to left, centred or right? Try setting it to the square one- it will space the text evenly within the margins.

Are you setting margins or borders? They are different things...

Put it on print view as Harriet says and tell us what you see...

Thanks everyone
It's Word 2003
It's in print view - the page has a dotted line up each side and top and bottom plus a sort of grey L shaped 'corner' in each corner with the point of it pointing towards the text iyswim.
I've moved the tabs manually and the arrows and it is now inside the dotted lines.

Would still like to get rid of the dotted lines...
