Have you removed the battery ? The wine could short circuit that and force a replacement at significant cost. Also, with liquid conducting electricity some other parts might have been fried.

One suggestion in the past has been to ensure the laptop has had a chance to rip any fluid out, and then place in airing cupboard.

Don't remember how long but 'airing cupboard' search in geeky_stuff might come up with a previous thread.

I've used a USB keyboard on a laptop which had wine spilt in it (causing most but the numeric keys to fail). Only have to use laptop keyboard for Fn key to enable/disable wi-fi but apart from that, don't touch the laptop keyboard or mouse at all.

Would recommend that for any replacement you might buy, as it means delicate laptop can be further back on desk or table away from coffee, wine, or children (throwing food or being sick, etc). May be no good to you but someone else might consider it worthwhile.

thanks so much - will have a search and try your suggestions. i know it sounds a bit "dog ate my homework" ish but actually bloody cat knocked wine over as she jumped on to side table ...grr!!

Just searched for airing and 10 threads came up in geeky_stuff, not all about laptops though.

Shame you didn't look last night - removing battery might have saved it.

As for the cat... well, mine used to sit on top of a large monitor (nice and warm) but one day was sick and killed monitor.

Fortunately didn't give herself a shock but the mess was pretty awful...

Might be worth seeing if it powers up tomorrow on battery. If not, try it with charger plugged in.

Good luck!
