touch.

Do you have a phone though?

wohmum · 24/01/2011 22:05

iPod classic if you've got loads and loads and loads and loads and loads of music

iPod touch if you've only got loads and loads and loads.... And if you are likely to want to use it for games or email or Internet or camera Smile

iPod touch every time in our family

jareth i've not got an iphone if thats what you mean. eh, am loathe to admit it on this topic, but only a wee phone that still has (oh horrors!) buttons!

wohmum, i hear ya! think the touch would be for me. want to use internet and camera. and dont have record shop worth of music. in fact my music knowledge stops pretty much 6 years ago (when 1st child was born).

If you are intending on upgrading your phone, then hold off. You probably don't need a touch or iPhone.
(I can't believe I'm sayin this :( )

I used to word for the mobile phone industry and could never believe that a phone would doo all you need.

Don't buy an iPod anything, get an HTC Desire or an iPhone :)
(HTC is half the price and does the same thing, plus you can upgrade memory when you want)

even all the music stuff?, cos that is really why i want it.

although i wouldnt mind a decent camera on it too and have just been reading on amazon that the camera on the ipod touch is not that great.

am off to investigate the htc desire! thanks!

Yeah, you can upgrade the memory card in the HTC, I've got 4gb and plenty of music on mine.

The camera on the iPod Touch is, to be quite frank, rubbish. It's a worse camera than they put in the very first iPhone yet alone when compared to the one that the new iPhone gets.

Personally an iPod Touch is far too small for my music, but then it does far my than an iPod Classic does, so I've got both :)

"Don't buy an iPod anything, get an HTC Desire or an iPhone"

The thing with phones is that there's the ongoing monthly charges for them, an iPod (or other MP3 player) is a one off price with no phone package to support. The battery life will also be better as all you're doing is playing music and not being a phone at the same time.

But that said if you've got to pay for a phone anyway and only want to carry one gadget around then there's a lot to be said for combining them all into one thing. The downside will be space though, I'm no phone expert (far from it) but I don't think there's anything good that will compete with the space you get on an iPod Classic.

I guess it depends how much music you want to be able to store on it? I'm guessing you don't really need 160gb (I have a huge music collection, and I don't fill a quarter of the space on my iPod classic)

Work out roughly how many albums you ideally want to carry around with you? At the moment I have just under 700 songs on my HTC, taking up under 3gb. I could upgrade to a 16gb card for under £20 which would give me room for approx 3500 songs! (god I hope my maths is right there wink] )

The reason I brought up the phone option, is that if you're thinking of upgrading yours anyway, and you pay a monthly charge anyway, then you may as well combine the two.

I know I haven't even touched my iPod classic in 6 months.. :p

BadgersPaws · 26/01/2011 12:11

I've got over 7000 songs and I'm using about 60gb on my Classic. So in theory I could just about get away with the biggest iPod Touch, but that would leave me no room for photos and apps, of which I've got more than a few. I find myself constantly juggling the selection of music that I keep on my Touch where as my Classic has pretty much the whole lot.

However I do rip my music at a fairly high quality as I also my the iPod with a stereo where the limits of the lower quality copies can be heard. So again the "what do you want to use it for" question really comes into it. If you're just going to be using headphones then to be honest I doubt you'll hear the difference using the standard low quality copies of songs. If you've either got very good headphones or want to use the iPod you'll probably want to up the quality of your recordings, so you'll want more space on your gadget.

Basically there isn't one right answer, it all depends immensely on what you'll be using your gadget for.
