Is there such a thing as a good website for children to learn to play chess?

DS is 9 and knows the basic moves but I think would enjoy something which developed his ability in a very practical way. ie not reading a book which boringly shows different strategies, but more like an online game?

Any ideas?

No idea, but my DS would like this too.

Don't know of a website, but Fritz and Chester is very good for the PC. Aimed at complete beginners, but still engages my 9 year old who has been playing for a while now. When playing a real game of chess he often mentions techniques that he learned from Fritz and Chester. I see that a couple of other volumes are now available that are aimed at more experienced players.

That looks good.

Bumping for more (and hopefully free Grin)

have you looked at chesskids.com? It has all the moves and on-line games. I run a chess club in school and it the main one that I use as it is on all different levels, with clear explanations.
