Am games machine luddite - know nothing, never used one. Object to on principle.

But have been persuaded that somthing like one of the two above might be ok, as they're active and aid fitnes - it's the sitting on front of a screen wasting hours twiddling thumbs that I object to.

Have not enormous kind of average living room, 3 kids, 2 adults.

Anyone with experience of either/both able to advise?

We have precisely no games machines so far, so absolutely no experience to go on - I've never even seen/usedeither.

Thank you. :)

kinect looks good doesn't it? our wii gets plenty of use (mainly me leaping about in my pants but don't really need a console for that, just like to keep track of these things) but bet the xbox one is miles better

We've got both.

Have just done a quick survey and DP and 3 DC (aged, 5, 7 and 13) all said Kinect.

I'd vote Kinect too.

The Dance game is amazing, very physical and very addictive.

DD loves the Kinetic Animals game, she's playing it now Smile

With the Wii you can 'cheat' by just lifting the controller rather than actually jumping but with the Kinect you really have to make an effort.

And you can speak to it too so more interactive.

It can also scan pictures that you have drawn and it takes photos of you playing them game.

It really is much more than the Wii.

We don't have a massive space and it's been fine.

The only downside is you need to set it up so there isn't a walkway past the Kinect or you interfere with the game by walking past.

Kinect is by far more superior. Plus the xbox is also an excellent all round console.

There really is no competition. The only thing to consider is if you can clear 2-3m space you need to play the Kinect.

We have 8 feet tv to sofa - is that enogh?

And was woried there doesn't seem to be much stuff yet to do on the kinect, as it's so new. Any thoughts?

Also, liked the fitness side of the wii as partly getting it for DH, who never has time to exercise, to help with fitness and losing weight - can the kinect do that too?

Thanks for helpful feedback so far. :)

6-8 feet from TV to sofa should be fine, so long as nothing in between like a coffee table, etc. for single player games. You will need another couple of feet between TV and sofa for two player games and also more space around the play area. I've also read (we don't have Kinect yet, I've done a lot of research and hopefully it's coming with the fat man in red!) that you can reduce the distance if you mount the Kinect sensor above the TV (there are official brackets to do this, so that it is looking down on you).

Yeah there's Kinect Sports and Your Shape: Fitness Evolved so far.

Kinect sports is coming for the kids at xmas. I've only had a quick play in Game where it was set up and the 100m hurdles was a hoot. I was jogging like a muppet on the spot and only realised I'd drawn quite a crowd. Tried to then cheat a little but unlike the Wii you can't so as soon as I tried to walk, so did my character!

If you do want to get fit, I reckon the Kinect is way more active than Wii Fit. There's a reason why Kinect & XBox'es are outselling both the Wii & the PS3. Quite simply its better.

Let me know how it goes tomorrow!

We've still not bought - are waiting till after xmas partly due to indecision and partly to lack of ready cash.

So anyone who opened a brand new one of either tomorrow and would like to share their feedback, that would be great!
