PC, DH uploaded some rubbish , unattractive, complicated software which we both ignore and play direct from files via VLC.

Any, good looking , easy use software not itunes?

Cheers

Ah - I was about to answer with VLC, but I see that's not what you're looking for if you already have that and "good looking" is now a factor Grin

Probably just need to read the manual and get my arse in gear with the tagging.

Over some 10 years I've kept using things like WinAmp, Win Media Player, RealPlayer, MMJB (Music Match Juke Box), but have also dabbled with MPlayer, DivX Plus Player, VLC, and even Spotify.

MMJB and WinAmp were recommended to me in the late 90s when I was working at a radio station. WinAmp is better at ripping CDs, though now I would recommend (freebie) Ripstation Micro (as you can rip FLAC and MP3 copies at the same time).

MMJB allows you to choose a genre of music (say Jazz) and will play those from your library. I've about 100 GB of music MP3s plus some more recently ripped FLAC audio.

For MP3s I came across a (free) label editor but it's on a PC currently in need of some maintenance, so cannot remember the name.

I still use Windows Media Player quite a lot of the time as multimedia keyboards with play/pause and skip forwards/back to next track buttons on keyboard are really convenient, I find, and the sound controls (mute, up, down) are great if the phone rings as mute shuts up music in a flash whereas finding the volume controller via the mouse while also picking up the phone is often more awkward.

Thanks NetworkGuy,

Interesting how quick it's change in 10 years, although I believe Home taping has been killing music since the 70's Grin

For a media player/library try MediaMonkey

Ripstation doesn't have AccurateRip does it? AccurateRip uses a checksum database to check that you have an exact digital copy of the CD. I use dbPowerAmp. It doesn't rip to FLAC and MP3 at the same time (as far as I know), but it will batch copy from FLAC to MP3.
