On another thread I posted that I needed advice about how long 500mb would last on the b'berry I'm thinking of buying dd for xmas. Kind reply was that it might be a problem if soomeone sent an email with loads of photos attached & i replied that surely she could just not open it but look at it on the computer instead. I'm tryiing to copy and paste the reply and wonder if any blackberry users can answer this plse?? Hhere it is.....

"'It all depends on the software. If the phone can dtermine before downloading that there are attachments, then it would be fine.

However, one of the main 'features' of Blackberry phones (only based on reading, unfortunately I don't have one), is that unlike many (/most) e-mail facilities, the BB has "push" technology where new mail is sent to the phone as soon as it arrives at the RIM (makers of BB) servers.

The "plus" part of this is that for (urgent | business) (*) e-mail, it comes through to your phone ASAP, instead of depending on some task asking "any new mail" every 15 (or however many) minutes.

If there is some BB user who can answer whether they can set a limit on the size of incoming e-mail messages then that would be a real help.

I suspect it also depends on the network one uses. Some may make features easily available to users.

(*) It was originally sold as a business phone for the e-mail facility in particular, hence the slide-away QWERTY keyboard that should make composing replies much easier than typical hit key 1/2/3/4 times to get a single letter.''

Thanks folks

Depending on what network you get it on, you should be able to get unlimited internet access, I used to have a blackberry on Orange and they did me a deal where my Internet only cost £2.50 a month to have unlimited instead of some tiny amount - It wasn't an advertised offer, I was just cheeky, most of the phone companies have offers if u ask for them! Hope this helps, good luck! Xx

Does it not have a slot for a memory card to go into?

It's not just about email, it depends on what music, photos and videos are on the phone too.

I got mine yesterday, I have it with Virin media;
£20 month, 1100 minutes, unlimited web access and some ridiculously high number of text messages.

I have bought a memory card as well as the video function needs lots of memory.
There are loads of good deals at the moment, the only downsides I think to the blackberry are the internet is clunky. Pages with lots of text are hard to read. Also, virgin media piggybacks off T-mobile and I am having trouble with their coverage. I lose the signal an awful lot.

Even the oes which say "unlimited" will normally have an asterisk because the small print is they have a "fair use policy" and AFAIK, even the old O2 iPhone (before iPhone 4 came out) which was described as "unlimited" actually had a limit of 3 GB at which point O2 would contact a customer.

Since the iPhone 4 came out, the bulk of contracts include 250 MB / 500 MB / 750 MB or 1 GB, and don't seem to lots more.

Far more important is whether you can tell the phone / network not to "push" e-mail to the phone. Question for the network, I think.
