Mad to move from MacBook to pc laptop?

Our Macbook is dead. I've only ever used macs. Dh toting with idea of replacing it with a pc notebook. Looking at a Sony i7 if that helps? He reckons they are miles cheaper. Need it mainly for iTunes, iPhoto, a bit of WP & spreadsheets and general Internet - googling/ games.

Almost bought one on Saturday but shop was out of stock of the one we chose, only reason we didn't get it. Anyway, a friend today said I would hate a pc notebook after having had a mock, loads of virus problems, just not as good.

So, is he right, once you've had a MacBook are you spoiled and can't return to a pc. Not that I've ever had one.

Thoughts?

hmm yes the chances of a mac getting nicked much greater -good point.
thanks

she's not gamer or techy either

Ok, so I'm not very techy as you can see. General concensus is mac better and easier to use? And can I make the memory in a MacBook bigger? Think 13" too small, as often kids have it on lap and 2 or 3 looking at same time. What 15" would be best with big memory? And how do I convince dh to ditch move to pc? Sob and say I'm too thick to cope? ( prob not too far from truth)?

"General concensus is mac better and easier to use?"

I don't know about "better" and a consensus is hard to reach. Mac vs. PC arguments are on of those things that have been going on for years on the internet which is some indication that there is no obvious answer.

A general statment that I might make would be "Macs are easier to use and more secure compared to Windows PCs but are less flexible, less expandable and are rubbish for serious games players. You also can't buy a bargain basement entry level Mac, they're all decent machines."

Someone else will disagree with me :)

Depending on which Mac you go for you might very well be OK with the memory that comes with it as standard.

"And how do I convince dh to ditch move to pc?"

You could say "if we get a PC then you will deal with and pay for all the anti-virus and security issues that come with it. You will also deal with all the questions about how to do various things on it."

He might retort "I want to play Grand Theft Auto", at that point you're in trouble :)

If you possibly can go and have a look at a 13" MacBook Pro as the resolution (number of dots on the screen) is very high and you might find you don't notice the actual size. Otherwise just get the cheapest 15 incher. A cool upgrade is to put a solid state hard drive in it which would make it go like a rocket, but I wouldn't do this just now as they are too expensive/lacking in storage. Get the standard configuration now and put more RAM and/or another hard drive later when you need it and they are cheaper.
