I was surfing (for accomodation in the wine region in CapeTown)on my ipad this morning and I automatically redirected to a website www2.safe-protect9.in. Now this bloody message is stuck on the screeen and I cant do anything except click on the OK button, which I am loathe to do. Why? Because after telling em I was vunerable it pretended to show me how it was checking my os however it was showing me windows. DOH. Understandable I am not happy, but also I dont know what to do to get rid of it.
Any ideas please? also this is my first mac experience so I am not so familiar with how to do things.

It's funny when you see hackers trying to convince you you have a virus by running a Windows looking scan when you're not running Windows :)

I think that Safari on the iPad is pretty similar to Safari on the iPhone so try this....

Go back to Safari and bring up bar at the bottom, tap the multiple window button at the bottom right, the window will zoom out, add a new page, then swipe back to the page with the scan thing on and click the cross in the top left hand corner.

Thanks BadgersPaws,
sadly I cant get the multiple windows to work, because the warning message, centre screen has an ok button and I think until I click it nothing is going to happen. i can see the icon for multiple pages but cant click it.

I don't have an iPad and can't get to that URL to see how an iPhone would perform. Try force quitting Safari which you can apparently do with this:

"Go into Task Switching (double click home button) then find Safari icon. Hold down on the app icon until is starts shaking. Click on the X in the top left. Then hit home button and try Safari again."

Starmummy · 26/10/2010 07:54

Nope, got it to shake but then safari didnt have a X anywhere on the safari icon and I couldnt see what I need to because it was inside safari (if that makes sense??).
I have X's in the top left of all the apps I have installed.

Can you shut it down? Sometimes turning these things off will help.

BadgersPaws · 26/10/2010 08:06

What actually is the message saying?

PrettyCandles · 26/10/2010 08:14

The x on the shaking app icon only works for apps you yourself have installed. I think the safest thing to do is probably to force a complete shutdown and reboot.

Tee2072 · 26/10/2010 08:21

Is that true on the iPad, it's not true on the iPhone, PrettyCandles? I can do anything I want on my iPhone even if it's a pre-installed App.

The iPad isn't getting task switching until November, so you can't shut down Safari like that.

I had something like this a few weeks ago - can't remembervexactly butI think I did this - I went into Settings and turned off the wifi and the cellular data (if you have 3G) then I shut down. When I restarted & went into Safari, I got a message that it couldn't reopen the page because it couldn't find the server, and I was able to go into the multipage view and shut down all the pages.
When I turned the wifi & cellular network back on, everything was ok

BadgersPaws · 26/10/2010 08:35

Ah, yes the iPad is still on the older iOS.

You could also try this to Force Quit Safari when you're in it....

"Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPad for a few seconds until a red slider appears, then press and hold the Home button until the application quits."

Starmummy · 26/10/2010 08:38

the message actually shows in the furthest background, the fake windows, as in showing your folders etc, then on top it shows what has allegedly been found and then on top of that is a grey box, the url is the first line, then Warning! Your computer is at risk of malware attacks.

We recommend you to check your system immediately. Press OK to start the process now...

Underneath that is the OK button. It all looks just like what you would expect from your normal pc/laptop virus checker.

RustyBear I will give that a go. All this mac/ipad stuff is new to me and I am still learning (didnt even know about the tasj switching Blush).
I have also joined the apple forum to ask there as well, felt like a bit of a numpty to be honest.

Is your iPhone jail broken Tee? because I can't get rid of preinstalled apps on my iPhone 4 - if I could I wouldn't have to have Stocks hidden on a separate page all on it's own...

Starmummy · 26/10/2010 08:43

oh fuck! I did the force quit of safari, which switched of the ipad, restarted it and there it was and it clicked straight through, but what do you know? the url wasnt found, so all that blather for nothing.

But ladies I am very grateful for your support ;-)

No, it's a regular 3GS.

But I was wrong, I don't get the X on preinstalled Apps, but I did remove stocks. I think through iTunes.

RustyBear · 26/10/2010 10:01

Oh, I'll have to try that once I get my laptop back - I've lent it to DD at university until she gets hers fixed.
