What you're trying to do is probably illegal, I presume that you're not paying for this.

If so then you're basically asking for advice on how to steal from those people who work in the creative industries. Think how you would feel if you saw someone come on this site and ask advice on how to steal from you or if you saw your boss asking people how he/she could avoid paying you for your work.

It's quite possible that depending on the site you're using the stuff you're trying to download is malicious software such as viruses that are trying to pretend to be TV programs to get people to download them. So your security software could actually be doing exactly what it's meant to be doing and stopping bad stuff from getting to you.

Finally if your on a work computer then there might be protection on there to stop people using the companies resources and network bandwidth for illegal purposes.

If it's a free site then it probably is illegal, especially for big shows like Dexter or True Blood. As a general rule sites that let you download anything such as music, games, films or TV show for free are not legal.

Some TV stations (such as the BBC with iPlayer or 4 on Demand) do let you watch some programs through their web sties and that's all OK. It's the downloading from sites that have nothing to do with a TV station or the company that makes the program that's the problem.

People shouldn't be posting links to illegal downloads and Mumsnet should be stopping that kind of thing.

Your laptop security software is probably blocking it because there is a security problem with the download or the website. If it is offering illegal downloads or streaming of television then I wouldn't be at all surprised if the website is riddled with spyware and/or viruses. If you really want to download it tell us exactly what the security message says and someone will tell you how to bypass it or switch it off... but please don't come running back here to ask how your credit card details have been stolen or how to get rid of a virus.

"If you really want to download it tell us exactly what the security message says and someone will tell you how to bypass it or switch it off."

Now that's it's been made pretty clear that this is illegal I actually hope that no one will say how to do it.

No one would advise anyone how to break into someone's house or how to avoid paying someone for some work that they've done.

Why then would anyone consider it to be OK to give advice on how to steal from the people that made the TV show and avoid paying them for what they've produced?

dont be cross with at me :(

not trying to do anything naughty

all i did was put watch footballers wives in google and then this page came up and i clicked on several links including seesaw/blink/tvduck to try and watch old stuff

i would never be silly enough to give out my credit card details for a free trial

i honestly thought i could watch stuff on these sites :(

You should not need to download something to view content from a legitimate tv-on-demand website.

Think about it... you can watch:

BBC iPlayer
ITV Player
4OD
Five On Demand
BlinkBox
SeaSaw

Without having to download anything as they will play via your web browser (though they may provide a download option as well for off-line viewing).

Therefore, something you have to download could well contain code that does other things to your system... such as looking for credit card information, bank details, passcodes/logins, add in functions to your webbrowser so all searches go to a paid search site etc. Your security software has pickedup that the software is not to be trusted... so take that hint.

nannynick · 14/10/2010 20:57

SeeSaw: Footballers Wives - from the Google results list you provided. It does not require a download.

You may need to update to latest version of Flash but should not cause your security software an issue.

TVDuck and Blinkx both look like sites to avoid. They seem to be linking to various sources, often in the US. That content probably will not be licensed for display in the UK.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/10/2010 20:59

hint taken nick :)

though i cant download seesaw either :(

how about vuze.com - is that allowed?

many on here use it

Blinkbox also has Footballers Wives - what you will notice is that SeeSaw and BlinkBox both only provide Series 1.

In time they may well provide Series 2 onwards... but that may be done as a Pay-Per-View initially, then later on as an advertiser sponsored version.

I've been using BlinkBox for online movie rental for a while now... so that's a trustworthy site, if you do decide to Pay-Per-View.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/10/2010 21:04

you STAR nick - thanks :)

'blows kisses through iphone'

You shouldn't need to download SeeSaw.

If you are getting a download prompt following the link I gave at 20:57:09, then it's probably your version of Flash that needs updating, or it needs to download a specific codec (code for decrypting video stream).

If you have trouble getting videos to stream... then doing the following can help (solved it for me):

Using Internet Explorer:

  1. Go to drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/crlupdate/en/crlupdate.html
  2. Click on the yellow bar at the top of the screen to install the ActiveX control (if the bar doesn't appear, don't worry ? you've probably installed it already in the past).
  3. Click on the big 'Update' button.
  4. Dismiss any boxes that have popped up.

Then try playing the movie again.
Note: Even if using a different browser to play the movie, use IE to do the update, as it is an update to the Microsoft DRM License software that is used to protect video content.

nannynick · 14/10/2010 21:11

You have Sky+ ?
Why not see if it's on SkyPlayer then... as you will have access to that via the Sky Subscription. It may not be available though, especially if not on a BSkyB owned channel.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/10/2010 21:43

I'm through safari but all seems to be working now

thanks xx
