Can't connect new tv to HDD- any help?

Well, it connects but when you try to do that pause live tv thing it breaks the tv signal so it's not recording anymore!

If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful, otherwise we'll have to buy a new HDD player with built-in freeview instead which is probably going to get expensive!!!

TIA

It would really help if you gave the list of items with manufacturer name and model, showing how it is connected to the next unit, from aerial to TV.

I guessing you have a Freeview box, some standalone recorder that accepts a signal on SCART cable (or HDMI??) and then that feeds the TV, but even if my guess is close to correct, it excludes any model numbers and some may have seen information about a particular unit being awkward / poor / impossible / misdescribed.

It's a toshiba regza. With our old tv we used the freeview in the tv to send the freeview signal to the hdd player & it worked perfectly & would pause & continue recording. However, when we try to pause the recorder with the new tv it then blocks the freeview signal.

Also tried using a seperate freeview receiver but this weakens the signal too much as our aerial can't cope with both freeview signals working at the same time if you follow me. (Sorry, not very good with technology & just relaying what DH has said/tried) Blush

My fear is that no modern tv will have the output socket anymore & we'll have to buy a new hdd device or upgrade our aerial!

Have to say it is the first time I've seen a suggestion that the TV can decode the Freeview to feed into an external box and then the output of that is displayed back on the TV... Maybe it was that output from the HDD was going in with SCART and 'taking control' of what was displayed by TV - many TVs automatically switch from the TV signal to display signals from any AV input.

Regarding a separate box and 'feeding two' I would query whether you would need to feed two - can you not just feed a separate FV box and use that through the HDD to watch without needing to have it in record mode ?

Alternatively, an aerial amplifier would provide 2 or more outputs and should last for years. My Mum had a 3 output amplifier fitted in the loft in the mid 1990s (to feed downlead into lounge and for cables into 2 bedrooms) and it is still going strong today (though I only have 1 FV box plugged in at present, planning to expand later, or get FreeSat and feed several boxes).

Being nosy, what is the make/model of the recorder ? I have not seen many around which aren't already including Freeview or FreeSat...

It was one of the first ones released in the UK by Phillips.

Thanks for the advice!!!

Looks like you will need to start saving...

However, I may later be on lookout for a standalone unit for recording (I assume you feed the input using SCART cable) ?

So please let me know if you plan to put it on Ebay to flog it ... my e-mail is peter 'at' web-hints.info (at least I will have a chance to bump up the price even if I cannot afford it in the end).

Thanks NG but I think we'll probably upgrade the aerial instead! Will be cheaper in the long run as will need to strengthen the signal ready for switchover anyway. Only have a pole in the loft at the moment!
