Do I need a dongle or a wireless card?

My pal got a reconditioned tower pc, we've connected successfully to broadband with the yellow LAN cable.
There's no wireless card in the pc (we think! how do we find out?) so should she get a dongle or what?
Thanks for suggestions.

You can have wireless cards, but they are generally more awkward to install.

Easiest in my view is to look on Ebay for a wireless dongle ( "usb wireless adaptor -bluetooth" )

Don't spend much more than about 8 quid - and don't worry about going for the fastest possible - 802.11b is up to 11 Mbps, 802.11g is up to 54 Mbps, but the broadband connection is prbably not going to give you 20 Mbps anyway (unless you pal has 50 Mbps from Virgin Media).

If there's any suggestion of getting a poor signal, it might be worth trying a USB extension cable, as it allows moving the wireless dongle around :)

Brilliant, I was hoping you'd be around NetworkGuy, thank you.
She's got TT broadband, we dont get cable here so she's happy with the speed she's got.
