Having lived through buy-it-all-over-again for every time they change the delivery system on music (vinyl, cassette, CD, i-tune etc etc), I am in no rush to buy the latest (but soon to be replacedHmm) techno gadget for reading.
I'll stick to a pair of low-tech spectacles, thanks.

The Amazon Kindle is all the rage among my friends - there is a waiting list at the moment. I'm planning to hold off till Christmas, when any glitches should have been ironed out, and order one then (before VAT kicks in).

I can't bear reading ebooks as PDF files - I can just about handle mning on a PC but anything that involves blocks of text makes me squint horribly - so I'm looking forward to getting mine.

I have a Sony e reader and a Kindle, the kindle is much better apart from not having an inbuilt light so makes reading on a plane in the dark difficult.

I love them both, but now covet an iPad, so will ebay the others after my birthday when I get the iPad.

i was about to ask - are they any more use than an ipad?

I've read free previews on my ipad and it is nice, with the added benefit that i can MN on my iPad too. I love the way the pages flip properly (I'm easily pleased!)

however, I think that fact that an ebook is actually more expensive than a real book on amazon is appalling and will therefore stick to good old books for the time being.

You can change the brightness on the iPad iBooks screen. the Kindle app seems to have a duller background (and no page turning animation)
