Can you identify this tree?

Anyone recognise the tree on my profile? It was growing in France, these pictures taken in July.

We'd like to get one for the graden, but would need to know what it is, and whether it would survive up here in the frozen North!

TIA

Hmm - the photos are absolutely tiny, but it looks to me most like a bottlebrush tree.

I have one in my garden in the south east against a south facing wall.

You could try it in Scotland and see how it goes - they seem to be reasonably hardy.

Sorry yes the photos are a bit tiny, I'll try reloading larger versions this evening. I've googled bottle brush tree, but I don't think the leaves are right - but that wouldn't be obvious from my photos

Thanks - as I say, I'll put up some bigger pictures later!

I think it might be mimosa. My friend managed to grow one for 5/6 years in Yorkshire, but hard frosts killed it about 2 years ago, despite being wrapped in that fleecy stuff you can get.

I certainly can't be doing with any plant that needs to be wrapped up in cold weather - I have a very "tough love" approach to gardening.

Are the flowers pink? Hard to tell from the pics.
Think it might be a Robinia, like this:

I've loaded up some better photos if anyone wants to have another look!

deffo mimosa see here

GrendelsMum · 24/06/2010 21:10

I think I've got it - it's what they call mimosa in the US, Albizia julibrissin 'Rosea'.

I don't think you've got much chance in the UK.

Thanks - I shall get the detail and see whether it would cope, but it may well be a bit too fragile!
