Help! Dh sprinkled mosskiller all over lawn...

last weekend and it has left large brown streaks of dying moss all over. I know you aren't meant to sew grass seed in the height of summer so what should I do?

Please could someone give me tips on what to do about the bare patches - should I just rake up the dead moss then sprinkle grass seed on the gaps? Is rye seed ok to use? I am a complete novice when it comes to gardening.

TIA

I would rake up the moss and put seed down. Cannot do harm and might even grow. And water lots.

We scarified our lawn this year and it has made a big difference to the moss. Maybe do that next summer?

thanks MMelindt, I guess we can only try

I think we will do some lawn maintenance in the autumn.

Rake up the moss really well, dont worry about the gaps. Dont bother with the seed though. My bitter experience is it will just die in the summer heat if it ever germinates. Only put seed on in late September and use seed that has seaweed on it so it grows quick.

In the meantime, water well with a sprinkler and you will be surprised how the grass which is actually sitting there under the moss springs up back to life.

Also dont over mow the grass. Mow only once per week and leave it at least 25 mm long. Cutting grass really short encourages moss.

Finally give it a good lawn feed & weed in late July and a good watering in.

Sorry what's the problem with moss? it's green isn't it? God save the world from mosskillers.

"Mow only once per week"

Excuse me?

Only mow once per week? My lawn goes into shock if it sees the lawnmower more than once a month!

yep, there is nothing wrong with a little soft green moss...he should have left well enough alone- where will the fairies lay their heads!

We don't mow that much but probably have been cutting it too low down as it means you don't have to cut it once a week
