any idea how much it should cost to have a dead tree removed?

I've no idea and I've just been quoted £450 to cut it down and remove the tree, treat the stump but not stump grinding.

Not sure if that's a good deal or not, and am trying to get other quotes.

Thanks!

Depends how big it is, and where it is (ie. if its close to buildings will be trickier). if access (and therefore removal of the tree afterwards) is tricky that will add to the cost too.

How big's the tree, what's access to it like and where do you live?

HousewifeOfOrangeCounty · 11/06/2010 09:31

I had one cut down and turned into logs for £50. Tbh it was a gardener who came to the door looking for work though.

I live in Kent, the tree is a little bit higher than the house, is about 8 metres from the back door and access is through the garage. (no direct access to our garden unfortunately).

housewifeoforangecounty - if he's in Kent, can you give me his details!?! That's a good deal.

It does seem a bit pricey, especially without stump grinding - I'd expect to pay about £250/£300 for that sort of job.

A few more quotes might be in order .

I paid £350 to have a tree removed that was higher than the house. He treated the stump and removed all the debris. I'm oop north though.

Great, thanks all! Shall get on the phone for some other quotes.

FakePlasticTrees - not a million miles away from Kent, but I didn't keep his number. Have you thought of looking for a local old boy, card in local shop etc?

BeenBeta · 11/06/2010 14:36

A big tree might cost up to £2000.

It depends on size and hw close to the surrpunding buildings. It is the cost of insuring accidental damage to surrounding structures that causes the high costs.

I've since e-mailed a friend who had a tree removed and she's going to dig out their number, think I should get a couple of quotes. Thanks again!
