Hi,
We have an extremely large copper beech in our garden; I guess it is about 70-90 years old (?).
This spring when the leaves unfurled (a bit later than usual), they had very tiny pinprick holes in them. They now (about a month later) have worm-like tracks on the backs of the leaves and the leaf edges are going brown and crispy. However, although that sounds bad the tree as a whole doesn't look too poorly, but I am terribly worried about it. Next door's copper beech is very close to it and looks the same.
They are both the subjects of Tree Preservation Orders. Would this cover them for a tree-doctor from the council, do you think? If there is such a thing ...do the local authority employ arborealists (that was a guess!)
I'll be ringing in the next few days any way - but if anyone has any ideas, I'd be very grateful.
