yes i should think so...its just coal dust isnt it?

Goblinchild · 23/05/2010 13:55

Wood ash is excellent for compost, so is charcoal. What sort of ash is it?

SuperBunny · 23/05/2010 14:22

erm, not sure. Whatever Tescos charcoal is. Will check the bag. Thanks!

It just says lumpwood charcoal so I threw it on the compost heap. Am sure it'll be ok

One possible problem could be when there are some animal fats left on the charcoal as these could attract rats and also will not rot down properly, making the compost 'sour'.

Thanks - We're veggie so there should be no animal fat in the coals.

I just chuck mine onto the flower beds and rake it straight in. Probably the wrong thing to do, but nothing has died in the years I have been doing it.

We put bbq ash in our compost and no ill effects after 3 years.
