I am currently smitten with all the geraniums, especially a beautiful purple one that is next to a yellow Welsh poppy. The dicentra spectabilis alba was gorgeous until the fox cubs rolled on it. Grrr.

I had a good look at my agapanthusessss today and can see the flower stems beginning to swell which is very exciting

My alliums are out and gorgeous,at least the purple pom pom ones are ,the frilly mad one ("hair") are in bud.But my garden seems quite ahead of the general trend and yet I live in West Wales-near the sea though so maybe warmer? My camelia was out ages and ages ago, long gone now.

IIB - @ your peas. I only just have flowers on mine.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 06/06/2010 23:19

Peonies and poppies have burst into flower this weekend.

My sweetpeas have flower buds on them. I love sweetpeas but thnk I may have gone a bit over board this year as I have about 50 plants.

My sole surviving poppy - Patty's Beige Plum - is now in resplendent flower.

I also overdid it with sweet peas, but will be taking the surplus to the school fair. No sign of any flower buds yet though. I went to an open garden yesterday where the sweet peas were already near the top of their wigwam - perhaps they were organised gardeners who planted in the autumn.

My sweet peas are near the top of their wigwams, I sowed in Feb and planted out in April in lots of manure. They sat still for over a month and its only the last two weeks they have gone mad. First buds appeared yesterday, no flowers yet. ASmallBunch - will be envious of you in Sept when yours are still going strong,eh?

I got some freebie oriental poppies a few years ago, incl Patty's Plum but they really don't seem to like it here. I thought they were OK pretty much anywhere? Next door's are huge. What am I doing wrong? We are chalky, dry, south facing, hot, very well drained.

A very large box from Crocus arrived this morning whilst I was out. It has 3 Dianthus Carthusianorum in. It feels like Christmas! Except much better.....

I am a newbie gardener. I have really got interested recently and have been working hard to tame my garden and make it look nice.

My ceanothus is gorgeous right now and I am trying to create a cottage-garden type border and my Johnson Blue geraniums are doing brilliantly- My Mum split some of hers for me and they have done really well despite looking like they might drop dead when I planted them!! Also my delphiniums have really taken off!

Also spent 5 days pulling out ivy that had taken over my wall- it was immense! Anyway amongst the ivy was a montana clematis that had never been pruned and had gone really woody and awful. I hacked it right back and thought kill or cure?! It is now sprouting the most fabulous thick new shoots and I also uncovered another clematis(not sure which variety yet!) which is also now doing wonderfully!

Finally I have alchemilla out in flower and it really is lovely with frothy flowers! I am always amazed at how it self seeds and just grows anywhere- mind you must dead head it this year or will have it everywhere!

Sambucus nigra "Black Lace" is lovely now as is Rosa Glauca. Also aquilegias are looking gorgeous - have some lovely green/white ones from T & M called "Green Apples".

This is total cheating, as I don't have a garden, but I was at my parents' house this weekend and the peonies are fabulous. I love, love, LOVE peonies!

And my father is a fantastic gardener!

southeastastra · 07/06/2010 17:44

the yellow and purple flowers

MarshaBrady · 07/06/2010 17:51

Roses are looking good. Particularly one huge climbing rose with pink blooms. Rhododendrons are lovely and about to finish.

The garden is pretty, but there is a bit too much pink / green. I need some more yellow, orange etc
