Apple tree help!

I am not very knowledgeable about fruit trees and have had a few disasters. My apple tree hasbeen the worst bother - first year planted we got 2 very delicious discovery apples. Next year was hoping for great things but all the blossom went brown and fell off. I cleared all dead leaves and blossom away and put them in bin not in garden. Last year it has some strange white lines like wormy looking things on some leves - looking like a viral infection or something. We got 1 apple though rather than none the year before.

This year I'm hoping it will be OK but - noticed some silvery looking leaves (powdery mildew?) nd of one branch and cleared them off. Also loads of the blossom has fallen off but there are some very tiny fruits.

Shall I give up on this D* tree or is it saveable?

Well the blossom falling off could be due to the cold spring. I think a lot of people have has problems with frost killing the flowers htis year.

Also do you treat for insects or diseases at all?

I never bothered when I had an apple tree, but it was old and well established, I think new trees are more prone to these kind of problems.

I'm learning about apple trees too. Dont know much about diseases but have got the impression that good pruning of young trees is important for fruit production. I found some good information on natural england's website.

ksmum I've had exactly the same problem this year with my apple tree. I've only had it two years but my blossom came up really lovely, then kind o f just went in on itself and has started to go brown in some places, and the leaves on the extremities have that same silvery look. Not happy, my pear tree has some fungal infection as well, my plum tree's the only one that looks like it'll bare fruit this year.

Well maybe it is going to be OK then - there seems to be some fruit coming.

I don't really treat it because I don't like using chemicals but maybe I should.

I am rubbish at pruning it as well - no idea what I am doing!

I think I have powdery mildew on my apple tree so I'm trying a solution I saw on another forum of milk and water at a ratio of 1:10 parts. I'll let you know if it works
