Miniature Magnolia Tree...... Does such a thing exist?!

I love love love magnolia trees and I am full of if anyone has one!

I have a spot in my garden coming up that would suit a magnolia I think but not a full height one. Is there such a thing as a miniature that grows no taller than ideally 6/7ft. I know that they do not like pruning ( I think I know!)

thank you x

About £49 for a relatively small magnolia stellata, like 2 foot, does that sound about right? Already in bloom for this season.

No sounds too much.
Google and you will find them for less. Or go to a local nursery rather than a garden centre.
Even Crocus, well known for being pricey, has them for much less

Cheers Pannacotta!

I haven't a clue as to how much it should be. When you have no idea, you really have no idea!
Will do online research.

Because of unexpected weather changes I'm trying to see of it's possible to grow a small flowering magnolia tree in our sunroom. The room has a western exposure and catches the sun from noon until sunset.

I have both a grandiflora (the big one) and a stellata.

The stellata hasn't grown much in the 3yrs it's been in but has flowered prolifically since it first went in.

The grandiflora has grown like a mad thing! Been in 4yrs. I bought it at about 2ft tall, 1.5ft wide. It is now at least 8ft tall, 5.5ft wide. It puts on about 1.5/2ft feet of growth a year (height-wise).

I want to put another grandiflora in my front garden but there's a pair of HUGE (at least 65 feet tall) protected (TPO) natives in there at the moment which have sucked all the nutrients out of the soil so it is definitely not good enough for a magnolia, which is a real shame.

I have had a small one for about 3 years - all I can remeber is that it is called "Susan" and it will only grow to about 5 or 6 feet. It is in a half barrel and heightwise is about 3 feet max and has only grown about 8 inches since I have had it.

It has the most gorgeous magenta flowers on it at the mo - its one of my favourite plants in the garden.
