Hi,i posted a couple of weeks ago about my ds coming home with a pumpkin seed in a pot & having to grow it ready for Halloween.

Well i managed to not kill it & it sprouted up & and even grew a few leaves, well i followed your advice & i have put it in a much bigger pot,it has not grown 3 larger leaves which i think will bear the fruit? (you can tell i havent got a clue)

Well at the moment it is in this pot in the front of the patio doors & i have put a plastic bag round it to act as a propagator (is this good)?

It looks like the weather has turned for the better round here,so shall i move it outside yet?

Shall i keep it covered?

How do i keep the slugs off it?

Do i need to do anything else to keep it happy?

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't move it outside yet as still a bit too cold at night for it. Whereabouts did you live? Last frost is end of April in London.

You could prob move it out mid-May time.

You can put copper tape round the pot to keep slugs off but I wouldn't worry too much unless you see it's starting to get attacked. They tend to go more for lettuces and beans ime.

We are in North Wales, right i will keep it indoors till mid May then.

Do i need to do anything special to it? Like feeding it or anything? It is in compost atm, shall i keep it in the plastic bag?

I am really getting the growing bug from this & would be really annoyed if i killed it now.

No I don't think you need to do anything special. You can give it a feed much later on when it starts to flower/fruit but at this point, nothing.

You just make sure it doesn't dry out.

I wouldn't have thought the plastic bag was needed to be honest as long as it's inside. But if it's thriving like this, then maybe it likes the extra heat

Ooh,I was thinking about your pumpkin today, whilst sowing my pumpki seeds.I'm glad it is doing well.

Mine are doing well, I've never done them before. I put them in bigger pots today and they are outside on the patio. We have a hot garden though so I might just leave them there and put them in the earth in a couple of weeks once they have bigger roots.

Got another new leaf sprouted up,it is really growing so well,i am just worried now in case when i put it out i kill it.

Next yr i am going to build some raised veg borders,i have been bitten by the bug

mine survived the night on the patio. I had a mild panic about the sodding pigeons attacking them but they were ok with the cold. But I will bring them in at night for a while because of the birds.
