Can I create a wildflower garden in this space?

My back garden is divided by a path. The one smaller side has lots of mature trees around it. The lawn is not very good here, very mossy and ugly looking. The space here is about 2 metres by about 5 metres.

Would this area work as a wildflower garden? And how is the best way to go about it Would buying a pckt of wildflower seed mix work? And what would I have to do to prepare the ground first.

I don't see why you couldn't do that ... it sounds like a lovely idea ... but I haven't a clue how so I'll bump it for you

Try it

If there's lots of mature trees around is it very shaded though? traditional wildflowers (ox-eye daisies, cornflowers, poppies etc) generally like full sun.

If it's shaded you might need to put a bit more work in.

If you've got a Home Bargains near you, they do a wildflower seed mix for about £2.50 - you can always try that - it's worth it for a punt! Alternatively, if you carefully go through which species will happily thrive in shade, then you can individually sow the seeds.

To prepare the ground... Dig up the turf. Remove any weeds that don't come up with the turf (mainly dandelions, creeping buttercup etc). If you can, dig the plot over with some well rotted manure / compost. You can also use chicken manure pellets (from B&Q / garden centres, Morrisons currently selling a HUGE tub for £6 atm). After that, just follow the instructions on the seed packet. It will probably be a case of sow, cover, water, wait.

With a bit more info, I could give you some good ideas for plants that would work well in this area though, and would be dead easy to grow
