Hi hardys007, I've been having a look around as I'm looking for something similar.....you could look at Viburnums, they are usually shrubs, but their habits vary. A few dwarf varieties, such as Viburnum opulus 'Nanum', are under 3 feet.

I'd be interested to hear of any other suggestions? Sarah

thank you sarah, will take a look at those.

Would second lavender.

I love lavender! It's also really good for helping you sleep if you put some under your pillow. Sarah

Hebes ?? They look pretty and flower, but also look nice foliage wise. Pittosporum tenufolium 'Tom Thumb' is lovely, purple foliage, shrubby.

catinthehat2 · 18/03/2010 17:45

hebes

midnightexpress · 19/03/2010 13:53

Ha. Came on to say hebes! . My neighbour has 3 big ones in a row, purples and pinks and they look lovely for ages in the summer.

DecorHate · 19/03/2010 13:55

I was going to say Hebes too! I love lavender but sadly it doesn't grow well in the soil here... and hebes have the advantage of looking good all year round.

Heathers, cistus, euonymous - have a look at crocus.co.uk - they're my favourite plants web-site!

Spirae japonica is lovely - light, almost lime green leaves with lovely pink flowers.

Grows well and takes a lovely shape.

I love lavender and have loads but they need pruning at the right time of year and look pretty ropey in winter. Skimmia is pretty, small, evergreen with nice red flower buds in winter followed by scented white flowers. If you get a female plant it will have red berries too. I'd also second hebes, I've got 2 small leaved ones one pink tinged, one purple, very pretty and slow growing.
