We've got a young crab apple tree that we planted last November. When it arrived it already had apples, and they are not shifting. All are very well attached, by some miracle to my novice-gardener's eye, as they have been gently rotting for a while now. There are new buds forming on the tree, so it looks like it is doing ok.. but what should I do with the apples? If I don't pick them, when will they fall off??

d'you know, life is too short to think about this kind of thing for too long. Apples are gone. Picked. Tree looks happy for now. I am at peace, eating a raspberry and white chocolate biscuit, drinking a cup of tea. hello springtime.

apples are too far gone to make jelly. thank goodness, the pressure to be productive may've been too much. maybe next year?
