In my garden I have a tree which is growing atm, large Grape size green things!

My first thoughts were Olives but when you get up close they're not the right colour.

Obviously I don't want to eat them to find out but am desperate to know.

Thanks for that soupy.

Just a little update though. I have been out and had a another look at it today and there are some bigger fruit type things on it. They are alot bigger then the others and a really pale green, they look like they could be shrivelling up. At first I thought they were cocoons!

Any ideas?

Passion fruit? Did it have flowers on it before the fruit came? If so can you describe them?

assumedname · 08/06/2005 09:47

Any chance of a picture?

Otherwise I'd say green gage or plum. My tree has got loads of the grape sized green fruits on it at the moment.

gooseberry bush ?

lunachic · 08/06/2005 09:50

whoops sorry you said tree!

Newbarnsleygirl · 08/06/2005 17:05

No, no flowers on it and I have no pictures.

I think I'll just pick a large and a smaller fruit and see whats inside. It might give me a better idea.

Other than that I think it will be a trip to the garden centre.
My mum had a look at it today and she is stumped.

I'm betting almond.

SoupDragon · 08/06/2005 17:09

I'm surprised it has fruit but had no flowers. That would rule out plum and (I think) almond because both have obvious blossom don't they? Even my walnut tree has long catkin type "flowers" iyswim

Newbarnsleygirl · 08/06/2005 17:10

I forgot to mention that the leaves are curling up too.

Could be a peach, with peach leaf curl.

binkie · 08/06/2005 17:12

It was the shrivelly up thing that made me think almond. We had one in our garden when I was wee that did that.

Newbarnsleygirl · 08/06/2005 17:13

Oohhh peaches

actually

  1. Is your ds called James?
  2. Did he have a visit from a small person with a paper bag containing tiny wriggling green things?
  3. Did he drop the paper bag near the tree?
Newbarnsleygirl · 08/06/2005 17:16

lol!

The large ones are obviously dying as it's started to rot at the bottom but the smaller one had 2 white pips/seeds in it?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 08/06/2005 19:38

Did we rule out Greengage?

Newbarnsleygirl · 08/06/2005 19:50

They're not that big and if they just grow in to the size of what I picked earler then it's definatly not a green gage.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 08/06/2005 19:51

Greengages have a stone too rather than seeds....

Newbarnsleygirl · 08/06/2005 19:53

It's driving me nuts.
