winter veg in pots

having enjoyed some limited success with my potatoes and tomatoes and strawberries (still waiting for chillies) I'm thinking of making a proper effort with winter veg

I need to make/borrow/adapt containers - what sort of things can I grow and how deep do the 'pots' need to be?

I've got carrotts in pots, which are going great guns, apparently they'll do very well in drainpipes too (which is how the huge show winning veg gets grown well and straight!) so I'm guessing parsnips will be fine in pots, have tried to do leeks this year, two germinated out of millions and then failed when I transfered them to pot....may give onions a go, straight into outside pots?

ah, how big are your pots for carrots? I think I'm in time for those aren't I?

am wondering about ordering a collection of young winter veg plants from crocus and then just bunging them into various containers and hoping for the best - if I've left it too late to start from seed, slightly scared of the work involved in raising from seed

I've just used large side patio pots, if that makes sense! the kind of thing you'll find a floral display in! I've done Carrotts, peas (which have been a treat!) and spring onions, they've all thrived! I planted all 3 from seed straight into the pots and they've been fine, you just have to remember to water them daily if they sky is not obliging. Good luck!
