2 growbags and a trough in a sunny spot, what vegetable can I plant at this time of year?

I've just realised that I have space in the front of our house for a few more vegetables. It's nice and sunny for most of the day, and we're on the south coast, so it'll stay warm until quite late in the year.

The trough is approximately 2ft tall, and probably about 2.5ft square. Could I get a late crop of potatoes from it? It's probably a few inches shorter than my potato bag. Or could it be better used for something else? A couple of cauliflowers?

The growbags are growbag sized. I have three squash plants that could go into them, but given that I already have three courgettes and two squashes out the back, I'm inclined not to bother (I am anticipating a squashy autumn). Could I plant a few pea/bean plants in there and train them up the fence behind? Or cucumbers? Kohlrabi? I don't even know what one is TBH.

Also, although our road is fairly quiet, we do get students up and down it, so I don't want to grow something expensive/that requires a lot of nursing, as it will be visible from the road and I don't want to be too heartbroken if it gets pinched by a drunken teenager.

I'm happy to either get seedlings from the farmers market (they seem to have every vegetable seedling under the sun) or order seeds...

Oh, and while you're here, what on earth is eating my beans? I have some (runner? I have no idea, my mother gave me them) in a massive pot out the back climbing up some canes, and they're being eaten from the top down. I started with 5 and now only have 3 . Birds? Can I put some of that fleece stuff over them or something?

i can't help with the bean problem i'm afraid as i'm a bit of a novice to gardening, but for your tubs/growbags you could try the following:

peas
more beans
peppers/chillis
aubergine
cucumbers good, although i find gherkins easier and quicker to grow
not tried cauli's though i hear they're fairly easy
tomatoes
carrots
probably potatoes, though we've had ours in for a few months already

hope that helps
