Clematis help for reluctant gardener??

.....I have a beautiful clematis, must have had it about 7/8 years now. Anyway i didn't cut it back last year and still haven't this year, it is all twiggy with a few buds coming. Do you think it is too late to cut it back now? I would like to as last year it didn't flower as beautifully as it usually does and i wondered if that was because it didn't have a good chop??

What sort is it?

I chopped one of mine right back when it was all top growth and not enough at the bottom. It's beautiful now - so it can be done!

I can't exactly remember Seems so long ago i planted it. It is a beautiful purple/cerise pink big flowered one, i think it might have been called a 'firework' or something like that!

I used to chop it right down to the ground but if i remember rightly i did that in about March/April and it flowered so beautifully all my neighbours commented on it!! I am just worried if i do it now i might not get any flowers at all!

Have a look here.

I've got a 'Fireworks' and I moved it this year and chopped it right down. It's just starting to flower.

I found it Uriel, thanks for that

It is probably too late to prune now as it says, flowers may/june and then again in Sepember, i remember that now! So if i chop back we are in May now so i might ruin my chances of flowers.

Thanks for your help.
