these are really good. I promise. Stale left over beer works just as well as the decent stuff.

We are blessed with Extra Large specimens of the slimy kind (and Extra Super Large Grande spiders [cries out loud, very loud]), they don't eat roses I'm pleased to report. Then again, who could, the thorns on some of my lovelies are truly frightening.
Not much help, sorry.
Been thinking though, could I glue wide ribbons of coarse sand paper around my strawberry pots? Would that deter the greedy slimie's?

I read that cat litter is supposed to be good (rough and also dries them out).

if you put smashed up egg shells round the plants, the little buggers wont go near it. they dont like the feel of the shells.
problem is, how many eggs can a family eat...bring out the omelette pan

I tried a mix of crushed egg shell and coffee grounds last year and lost everything - lettuce, carrots, beans... (tried putting out fairly large runner bean plants in 4 waves and lost the lot)

This year I've got a raised bed which I've ringed with copper tape and so far everything is okay. The only difference this year is that we have chickens in the garden (although not near the veggies ) and I wonder if the slugs have a sense of smell and are avoiding the garden - probably not actually!

I think the thinking behind getting marigolds to plant with veg is that the slugs gorge on marigolds and then are too full for lettuce.

They hate plastic plants and astro turf.

What plants don't slugs eat? Thistles, nettles, dandelions, buttercups ...

I've given up worrying about what they eat outside at the moment. Whats bothering me is that I'm quite often finding slime trails on my doormat in the morning. Not an outside mat, the one inside the back door. Never found a slug though... they must be squeezing in through an imperceptible gap under the door for some unknown reason and then out again in the morning. Unless the dog is eating them
