Hello. I've grown the following herbs from seed on my window ledge but I'm not sure what I need to do next. I have troughs for them outside but can I plant them out now? Will they last or I will I have to keep replanting? Any tips would be gratefully received.

Rosemary
Sweet Basil
Corriander
Sage
Parsley
Marjoram
Dill

I've tried to plant out some seedling that I've grown and they have died as a result of the lack of sun and bad weather (am in Scotland). I think the best thing to do is wait until they are a couple of inches high and then transfer them into other pots and put them, in them, in a sheltered place in the garden to acclimatise (sp?) them. After a couple of weeks then transfer them again into the ground. Is so when you put them out too early and they die.

Good luck- I'm a novice gardener though so take what I say with that in mind.

The Rosemary, sage, parsley and marjoram will keep growing.
The basil, coriander and dill will need to be resown next year as they only have a limited growing period.
If you can, grow the basil inside on a windowsill as they need much warmer conditions to grow than the others.
Try staggering the sowing of the coriander as it grows really quickly - sow seeds every two to three weeks and you should get a constant supply.

I'd echo advice to harden them off gradually. Rosemary, Sage, Parsley, Marjoram and Dill will be quite hardy and probably ok at this time of year. Basil and Coriander need a warmer climate, so I'd keep them indoors for now. I'll be planting my basil seeds in the greenhouse shortly.

Thank for all coming back so quickly with your advice. Thanks for the tip on staggering the coriander.
