Pruning a Pittosporum tenuifolium

I have an Australian Pittosporum which the label said would grow to 6' tall and which is now around 14' tall (yes, I know I should have thought about pruning it before ...).

I'm not sure when or how to prune it - I've looked in all my books and I've Googled as well, but had no joy. Does anyone have any idea?

I've taken advice from DH, who is a gardener and he says it would be OK to prune it now in the warmer weather. It's fine to cut the main stems to lose the height, but don't trim back the sides too much as there is no guarantee that it will shoot again. How all you have to do is get rid of all the rubbish once it's cut!

We have a skip at the moment getting rid of an apple tree, so that's not a problem! Thanks a lot
