How much water?

Bought a Pachira (tall mexican plant with plaited stem) at the weekend. Instructions say to water it and feed it every 3 weeks, but how much?

I have a tendency to unintentionally kill things, and sooo want this one to survive

Help please!

I bought one of these a few months ago - quite a tall one as loved the plaited stem! - and am worried that I'm unintentionally over-watering. It's growing well but some of the older leaves turn brown and drop off...

I'll be interested to see what others say!

Hi Caitni
How much do you water it? Am convinced that whatever I do it'll end up dying, things always do in this house. Don't know why

I'm trying to stick to the watering once every three weeks - probably about half or three quarters of a litre though my one is pretty big (over a metre tall).

Writing that down makes it seem like not very much liquid! But, par some of the older leaves shedding, it's in fairly good nick as plenty of new leaves have grown.

I've a bit of form when it comes to killing growing houseplants so this year I thought I'd try my hand at growing veg from seed outside. And I'm now obsessed with my little seedlings! But now just hoping I don't kill them all off before I can harvest anything .

Ooh Caitni, that's great re the seeds, am in admiration!

I gave our plant about half a litre, with food in it, but it didn't seem to go very far... Ours is a big 'un too - we shall see what happens

Do you have many other house plants?

i had a lovely one of these. discovered the reason it was dying was the cats peeing in the pot.

PVJ lol at the cats - wish I had that excuse!

MBM highly recommend the seeds (though the neighbours must think I'm mad - checking on 'em every morning and evening ). We actually moved into this place in Jan so I stocked up on some aloe and jade plants as figured they're hard to kill (and make a change from spider plants, which was all we had left in the old place after I had finished killing everything else!). I saw the plaited stem of the pachira and thought I'd give it a go as well...now I must remember to feed them all...

PVL oops re cats! Must be hard trying to get them to pee somewhere else

Ooh good luck Caitni! Aloe's always good to have around the house... Not got a clue what a jade plant is, but shall go and google it - are they easy to look after?
We have another two plants - one with white flowers and one with pink flowers. Think you might be able to figure out what a green fingered girl I am not as I haven't a clue what they are They are clinging on to life - am very proud as we've had them for about a month now and they're still just about with us. Actually, we have three plants - just remembered about the dead hyacinth in the hall
