Front garden - how best to use it?

We are planning to move into a house which has a weirdly shaped back garden (narrows to a point as it's in a close) and has a larger front garden. The front is mainly grass apart from the drivesway and very much on view and quite open although has little brick wall around it. Seems a shame not to make some use of it. I have 2dc, aged 2 and 6 and have never had a garden before so am new to this. Would be very grateful for any ideas on how best to utilise the spaces. Thanku!

if not by a main road, use it as you owuld a back garden IYSWIM ie playing sunbathing etc.

unless you're into nude sunbathing or something?

That would give the neighbours something to talk about! It's a very quite road, just very 'open' in terms of anyone walking past so don't think I'd feel very relaxed. Suppose some highish hedges/shrubs might help-any idea which are cheapish and easy to maintain??

I would use the front for pots of salad leaves and dwarf fruit trees and turn the back into a play area and dining area.

agree with lauriefairycake

though i did dig up my front garden and use it a veg patch til we got an allotment

depends on what sort of person you are tbh. I always feel really self conscious and silly when I garden out in the front. However, I live in a location where the front is very overlooked/lots of people walking past so it is like a fishbowl. I even change my tops first to avoid the cleavage being too much on display to the pervy teenager who lives opposite and always loiters if I am outside

Is the front garden sunny? If so I agree with the others that I'd use this for eg growing herbs/veg or perhaps for ball games for the kids and use the back for sunbathing/eating.
You coudl put up some trellis above the wall, to about 5ft say, and plant climbers so it feels more private?
I woudlnt put a very tall fence up as it can bne a security issue.
