Orchid is fragrant from 11:30am until 4pm. Why?

I have a lovely dendrobium(sp) orchid, don't know exactly which kind. I don't often succeed in getting it to flower but it has a lovely clutch of small white-and-lavender coloured flowers right now, with deeper lavender veins in throat.

It has a gorgeous heavy honey smell. But only from 11:30 to 4pm.

I'm familiar with nighttime-fragranced flowers (pollenated by moths). But not brunch-till-teatime fragrance.

Why does it smell just at these times?

Probably because the insects it wants to attract are most active at this time.

It is also the warmest time of day. That could be significant.

Thanks cissy.

I've been googling about to see what insects might pollinate it. Didn't find the answer, but found this lovely picture of the plant.

How interesting. And beautiful.

Thank you Wilf.

It's on my desk right now, bringing my desk almost up to ninedragons'standards.

That's gorgeous!

I'm sure the scent thing is about temperature and enticing the pollinating insects.
