i planted some asparagus heads last year.
they, well most, have taken and did their 1st yr fluffy thing
apparently this year i will get a shoot or two and im to cut them off just under the soil.

BUT

what do i do with the old fluffy bits? cut them back/off? leave them be?
any ideas?
i will go and look it up btw, but theres no telling if i'll actually find the answer - hence this thread.
cheers

I'm pretty sure you leave them, my dad has a permanent asparagus bed and its always got tall fluffy bits in it! Hope you find something more definite and useful ;)

old dead fluffy bits can be cut off when they are brown, neat and tidy for this year's growth. When they are green they are feedign the roots below so leave them to do their thing.

Don't ravage your plants this year - eat a little bit but you ought to leave them to establish for another year before really starting to crop them
