I had my first veg patch last year, potatoes are very rewarding, kids loved it, I'm only learning too
So will be watching your thread as am thinking should I be planting something yet?

I've grown courgettes in pots before, and tomatoes, both of which did OK. I bought the plants as seedlings from garden centres in May (I think) and popped them into pots filled with the contents of tomato growbags

Last year I grew lots of mixed salad leaves in pots and little troughs as well. Just added seeds, and water and cut leaves as and when required. Most of these leaves are cut and come again varieties, so you can harvest the leaves and the plant will put more up - fantastic.

I'm not thinking about planting anything yet as I live in the north and it is too cold for plants yet. Still have leeks and parsnips from last year anyway to harvest!

You can grow virtually anything in pots... leeks, carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, peas, beans etc

We started our own very small veggie patch last year.

By far the best thing we grew was different lettuces and salad leaves, we didn't buy any salad leaves at all last summer, and were still eating them October time.

This year I'm planning

cherry tomatoes in hanging baskets.

potatoes in a trug

carrots in a trug- we tried last year but they didn't like our soil.

lettuces- some in patch and some in pots

beans and peas- pots

sweetcorn- in patch

strawberries- in a tub

spring onions- tub

parsnips- patch

and pepers- we have some in the kitchen that are overwintering as we sowed them too late.

Take a look in Wilko's they have a good selection of seed's that can be grow in pots.
