Any advice on a small tree for my front garden?

I'm a total novice, this is my first ever garden but I'd quite a small tree. I would like something that won't grow too high or require too much work.

What do you recommend?

No, nothing at all. I think I've hacked cut mine back once.

It loses its leaves in the winter but they are a lovely soft grey green in the warmer months. it won't grow too big either.

A magnolia looks pretty too.

I like Rowans, they will grow in most soils and in sun or shade.
The vilmorinii is esp lovely and quite small and the birds like the berries.www.bluebellnursery.com/cgi-bin/catalogue.cgi?cat=t&genus=Sorbus&initial=v#Sorbus%20vilmorinii
There are a few nice small Rowans on ths link.

Prunus - snow fountain - gorgeous and we get loads of compliments on it - its look a bit like a small willow - has loads of tiny confetti blossom on it in the spring and leaves turn a fab colour in the autumn.
