Which is the best bamboo type for height but not invasive roots?

We need as much height as possible - 4m plus - but I really don't want to have to deal with loads of invasive roots which I know can be a problem with bamboo.
Any thoughts?

We are growing bamboo (unsure of type but its curently 2 metres and growing) in pots (admittedly huge 3ft x 3 ft) but they're thriving, they do need a huge amount of watering in the summer though (lucky we have water butts)

was hoping to avoid doing loads of watering (am very lazy!!)
Did you get it locally or order on line? There is so much choice on line am a bit overwhelmed.

If you do like the look of an invasive type then a good tip is to cut the bottom out of a cheap plastic bin (the large type that you put out for the bin men). Dig a deep enough hole to put the bin into it so that the top of the bin is an inch below the surface. Then plant the bamboo in the bin. The roots won't go deep enough to escape through the bottom of the bin, and you can just cut and pull up any roots that go over the top.

Is bamboo any good for screening? I want to screen off my compost area at the bottom of my garden. It's quick-growing, isn't it?

If you buy the right kind it will grow very quickly pw, it mostly grows in the spring though so you wouldn't get much of a screen between now and then. You would probably need to look a different types, some are bushy and good as a screen and some are more leggy and better in front of a blank wall that can show their shape. Don't buy a dwarf variety as that wouldn't grow much more than a metre high.
