It gets lots of sun and has brick walls so I think many tender things would probably survive here.
WOuld like some scent and cheerful colours.
Any suggestions? Thanks

bananna plants look nice and have lucious thick leaves, fatsia japonica is also nice, kniphophia is nice and also crocosmia, phormiums are also quite striking(sorry my spelling is pants). Not sure exactly what sort of exotic look your going for but a lot of the nice big palms will do well in this country if you have somewhere shealtered and warm for them to live. Trachycarpus is a nice one although be carful when picking palms as some get panicles of flowers which smell very similar to wee and its not very pleasent, but I cant remember exactly which one it is. HTH... Im not that great with plants but Im studying landscape design at uni so always like to try and help if I can. Also there are loads of good books out there on planting scheems. You could try your local library if you dont want to splash out, they can even order in certain books for you if they dont have that particular one in stock, also going to a good garden centre is always great (not B&Q as a lot of their staff dont know anything about plants) But if you go to a smaller garden centre most will be very happy to take you round and show you the plants that would be suitable for your garden and if your buying a lot you might even be able to get a discount. Never be afraid to ask

Thanks spooky, some lovely suggestions. I do know a bit about plants but have never had the right spot for anything exotic so have never researched them before. But I think this space would be perfect, its really sheltered and enclosed by tall brick walls.
Banana plants are fab yes and I like crocosmia and phormiums too, though as its not a big space would prefer things which arent too spiky. Palms probably too big I think, and Fatsia too.
Will look up Kniphopia.
Any ideas on nice scented and exotic climbers, other than jasmine/passion fruit (have these already there)?
Thanks again
