2 wild rabbits dying of mixy in my garden

and they're huddled together under a hedge.

all a bit nature tooth and claw for my liking and my 4 year old is torn between macabre interest and sadness that they'll die.

anyone know how long it'll take? noticed suddenly that all the rabbits round here have vanished (and we had loads) and clearly saw the two with mixy a couple of days ago.

traceybath, don't know if you've read all of thread, my comment about "walking away" was not directed at you, or indeed anyone in particular. I'd hate you to think it was.

Hope all is resolved this morning.

I've spaded an animal - in my experience you need to be able to see it clearly, and instead of just bashing like fuck, position the spade carefully over the neck and JUMP with all your weight onto the spade. With firm ground underneath this should result in pretty much instant decapitation. It did when I did it, but it was only a chicken I did it to.

Thanks for all the replies.

I spoke to the farmer and he's been taking care of the poorly rabbits as he sees them. The two in my garden had gone this morning but saw some more poorly ones in the fields beyond my garden so farmer is off to find them.

He was very nice and he doesn't like doing it but as we all know its the kindest thing.

Well done traceybath, poor you.

.....and having re-read the thread, I think perhaps I need to consider more carefully how I phrase things on here.

I'm not a psycho-killer, honestly.

Poor farmer did look so sad though - he really hates killing things. I felt like i was hiring an unwilling assasin.

Although we both agreed it was the best thing.
