They are fairly hard to kill - but I'd wait til the spring & see if it sprouts, if it doesn't you can plant a new one then

should i prune it again do you know?

my prvious one lasts years but then died, i thought someone said theydid suddenly die, but i expected longer than one year!

Hang on - I'm getting a flashback

I think (this is very vague) that mallows last for years then all on them die all at the same time (but that could be a load of nonesense)

No idea about pruning

I cut back a 14 ft one to a 6 inch stick, dug it up, moved it, it grew for 3 yrs then died

thanks anyway

They are short lived so its quite normal for them to give up after a few years, prob better not to prune them too hard though.
I'd just get another one as they are not too £££

Aren't they biennial?

Pannacotta · 25/08/2008 21:35

According to the RHS site:

"Lavatera can be annuals, biennials, perennials or sub-shrubs, with long-stalked, palmately lobed leaves and large, funnel-shaped flowers in summer."
