The link is wrong - takes me to MN log-in

throckenholt · 03/07/2008 21:00

um - how did you do that ?! - your link takes me to an area to set up my own image gallery in MN!!

So - not much help in identifying your plant I am afraid

claricebeansmum · 03/07/2008 21:01

Wow that was really clever.

Bet tech didn't know you could do that!

hillbilly · 03/07/2008 21:03

Nice looking plant but sorry, no idea.

Sidge · 03/07/2008 22:35

It's a purple leafy one.

sorry I'm not helping am I?

SalVolatile · 03/07/2008 22:36

Tradescantia something or other, I think.....

Madlentileater · 03/07/2008 22:38

Is it slightly hairy?
Is it really an indoor plant (in UK)
does it have (I think) pale pink flowers?
If so it may be one type of what i would call Tradescantia. Bt I may be wrong.

southeastastra · 03/07/2008 22:42

omg it looks like a fascinator my auntie wore to my cousins wedding last year

Madlentileater · 03/07/2008 22:52

what's a fascinator?

harpomarx · 03/07/2008 22:58

hillbilly, SalVolatile and Madlentileater are right. I think it's this one

I have it growing all over the house and have just tried putting it outside.

grows brilliantly inside and really easy to grow, just nick a cutting off the plant if you can, grow some roots on it in a jar of water and stick it in a pot.

southeastastra · 03/07/2008 23:01

lol one of these

hillbilly · 04/07/2008 14:04

harpomarx - I have seen it outside only and if all I need is a cutting then I think I might ring on their doorbell and ask for one!

How much do need to take for a cutting - sorry I am a bit of a novice!

just a few inches will do, hillbilly. I'm not sure where the correct place to take a cutting is but I have done it lots from this plant - I just pick a healthy looking shoot and cut it off. Stick it in water until some roots start forming (can take a couple of weeks). As it's such a prolific plant I'm sure the owner wouldn't mind if you took a few just to be sure of success. And I would grow it inside as well, it will take off really quickly and then you have your own source of cuttings if the outside one gets attacked or cold! I'm glad to see that outside one looking so healthy, I'm struggling to get mine going outside at the mo.

Madlentileater · 04/07/2008 14:34

Blimey, I was right about a plant

hillbilly · 04/07/2008 20:04

Thanks so much everyone. I will be round there in the morning knocking on their door!
