Cornus Kousa - drought tolerance?

I love the look of Cornus Kousa China Girl but am wondering how well it copes in drought - any experiences?

I have clay soil (also not sure if thats ideal?), it would be in a position of 6hrs direct morning sun, then shade.

I have a cornus kousa on clay. Its been in for about 5 years and is now taller than me. It is in shade and looks slightly droopy but is managing in this heat despite me not watering it. I am in the north though so it hasnt been quite as hot.

I've got a cornus (not kousa but similar) in clay - it's in full sun for the morning. It's rained sporadically here (north west) but the garden is really bone dry. I've given it two long drinks of water this summer when it was looking particularly droopy - but it's surviving.

I think initially with any tree water it in well and give it a couple of large watering cans of water a day or every other day for the first year - especially if it's a dry summer and winter.

Thanks @Geneticsbunny @PatioDwellers. Sounds like they tend to get a bit droopy, I might forego it then. Rather not have to be on top of watering!
