Does anyone have an Ensete banana in a pot?

I bought one this year and it’s been in a pot on my patio in full sun and it’s grown huge and I love it. But how will I get it through the winter?
I have an unheated greenhouse, a shed, and that’s about it.

I'd put it in the greenhouse.

@EBearhugi don’t think I’ve got much choice tbh, it’s way too big to bring indoors. I’m just trying to work out if I should cut it down in autumn or not.

I think it will struggle in the greenhouse as they don’t like cold weather.

they are tender and frost-sensitive, you must protect or move them indoors before the first autumn frosts

I would cut back most of the large outer leaves to prevent rot and wrap in fleece and hope for the best

I do! I cut all the leaves off leaving maybe a 12" trunk (I use a bread knife) and bring it into the house for winter. I live in NE Scotland and it would freeze in the shed. It goes back outside after the frost date in Spring/Summer with a good seaweed fertilizer.

Mine is on year 3 of being in a pot. The first year I cut off most of the leaves and wrapped it in hessian stuffed with straw and put it in a sheltered corner. Last year I just wrapped it in horticultural fleece and put it in the same corner, only cut off a few lower leaves. It’s doing ok!

I’m in S.W Wales though and 1/4 mile from the coast so we don’t get a huge amount of frost.

Hmm. Well I can wrap it up in fleece and put it in the greenhouse and hope for the best. Not sure what other options I have really, but I do hope it survives

I think if you haven't the space to bring it indoors, then wrapped in fleece in a closed greenhouse is your best bet.
