How is your garden coping in this heat?

Just that really!

I have kept up an evening watering schedule and sometimes a bit of morning if the night has been warm and dry, but some things are still so sad and scorched! I am hoping once the weather calms down a bit some hard cut backs will help things to flourish again. I have lost a few things entirely which I’m gutted about, lupins for one, quite a few sweet williams, and a couple of herbs which I’m surprised about.

How is yours faring? What have you found is super resistant? Have you lost anything particularly special to you?

All pot plants looking good. Watered every day with watering can. Lawn looks as if Wimbledon finals have been here!

We're on a hose pipe ban here but I haven't got a hose pipe! I just go around with a watering can and water those plants l don't want to lose. I have managed to save this water mint at the edge of the pond which I thought had died in last year's drought.

We had some rain today (NW) whoopeee !

I have had a gazebo up shading plants most of the summer which has worked really well. On the forty degree days a few years ago, I chucked bedsheets over the plants which I think was also beneficial

That's a great idea! I'm about to throw out an old white duvet cover. I'll use it to save some of my plants instead.

We cleared our long-time overgrown front garden in late spring, finally giving me a sunny space to grow flowers after struggling for years in the north facing back. I’m dying to get planting but there doesn’t seem much point if they’re just going to wither away. Plus we’’ll be having scaffolding up in September so looks like I’ll be sitting on my hands until after that; probably just as well.

Went to local nursery at weekend and bought a fair few plants that are more likely to survive south facing front garden with sandy soil. Split most into 3 as good sized plants and they are all potted up in shady area to grow on a bit then will go out in autumn.

A few things I planted relatively recently have been dug up and split too as were struggling plus I have been given agapanthus to go in. I had a grass in a pot that has also been split.
